Autoptic Announces Its Venue: Aria at The Jeune Lune!

We are psyched to finally reveal the venue we've chosen for Autoptic: none other than the historic Aria at The Jeune Lune, right in the heart of downtown Minneapolis. For those of you who haven't had the pleasure of attending an event, exhibition, or installation at Aria, Autoptic is fortunate to be hosted in one of the most unique and remarkable spaces in the Twin Cities. And those of you who have been there, well...then you know what we're in for.

Head over to their site to see a ton of great photos and images from past events, just to give you an idea of what the place looks like before we fill it with comics, zines, posters, records, and prints, not to mention the people who make all of those things worth championing.

Aria at The Jeune Lune can be found at 105 North 1st Street in Minneapolis, MN. We'll see you there August 18th!

Autoptic Annouces Special Guest Jaime Hernandez!

AUTOPTIC is proud to announce the festival's first (very) special guest: Jaime Hernandez.

Jaime's name has been synonymous with "the best comics the world has ever seen", since time out of mind. Over the course of his career, Jaime has crafted a living, breathing narrative that contains a depth and humanity unlike anything else seen in comics (or OUTSIDE of comics, for that matter). Beginning in 1982 (at the tender age of 18!), Jaime and his brothers Gilbert and Mario self published the first issue of Love and Rockets (quickly picked up and published to this day as the flagship title of Fantagraphics Books), a blending of punk rock, Southern California, monsters, magical realism and plain old love that changed the face of comics forever. Taken as a whole, Jaime's ongoing LOCAS continues to define the heart, soul and potential of the medium. Having recently celebrated the 30th anniversary of Love and Rockets, Jaime's appearance at AUTOPTIC will coincide with a major exhibition of his work presented in the main gallery of the Minneapolis College of Art and Design (MCAD). Jaime will be in attendance both at the MCAD gallery event on Friday, August 16 and then, 2 days later, as a special guest at AUTOPTIC.

We could not be more proud to have him.
